Remediation of Soil and Groundwater
TK&K performed a remedial action encompassing 5.5 acres of land impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons. 35,000 tons of impacted soil were excavated, with 15,000 tons being thermally treated and reused on-site; the remaining 20,000 tons were characterized and disposed of off-site. During excavation activities, 1.2 million gallons of groundwater were treated on-site to remove petroleum compounds for discharge off-site.

AFFF System Decommissioning & PFAS Investigation

TK&K performed the decommissioning of an AFFF system protecting 3 aboveground bulk fuel storage tanks and associated fuel-handling infrastructure. AFFF supply lines and mechanical equipment were purged of AFFF and decontaminated. Following the removal of AFFF, TK&K conducted a site investigation to assess PFAS impacts related to its release. TK&K characterized the soil and groundwater at the 35-acre site by collecting soil samples from more than 150 locations and installing 27 groundwater monitoring wells.

System Optimization

TK&K performed remedial system optimization of 2 groundwater and soil-vapor treatment systems. Following a survey of over 260 wells to identify obsolete and damaged wells, a total of 51 groundwater monitoring wells, 18 groundwater extraction wells, and 60 soil-vapor extraction wells were abandoned. TK&K installed 61 groundwater monitoring wells in locations to better monitor the remaining groundwater contamination plume.
